Getting your full medical history
Sessions normally last up to one hour and I recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing. I start by asking relevant questions to get a full history. This is normally done while you either sit or lay on the couch, whichever way you feel most comfortable. I will then take your pulse and look at your face, eyes and tongue.
The needles are always
- Single use
- Pre-sterilised
- Disposed of immediately after use
What to expect during acupuncture consultation and treatments
Once I have a full history, very fine needles are inserted into specific points on the body depending on what needs to be treated. The needles are then left in place for 30-45 minutes. You shouldn't feel any pain, at any time. In some cases I will burn a herb called moxa on the end of the needle or over a specific point. I may rotate the needles or stimulate them with a mild electric current (known as electro acupuncture). After the treatment you will probably feel very relaxed or sleepy, so I would advise you to refrain from vigorous exercise and to avoid alcohol for several hours.
